So, you’re in the group chat, and someone just dropped, “Life is hard, abeg 😩.” Another person replies, “Adulthood na scam 🫠.” You’re there, looking at your phone like, “If only these people knew how prayer has been helping me stay sane 🙏.”
You want to say something—maybe even share a Bible verse or drop “God’s got you” in the chat. But the last time you tried, someone hit you with, “No preach am for here abeg 🛑.”
Now, you’re wondering: How do I talk about my faith without making everyone zone out or start dodging my messages?
It’s possible. Here’s how to rep Jesus in your circles without sounding like you’re leading a midweek service.
1️⃣ Stop Sounding Like a Walking Bible App 📖🚶🏾♂️
Yes, scripture is powerful. But if you’re always dropping “According to 1 Corinthians…” every two minutes, your friends might start seeing you as a mobile KJV.
Even Jesus didn’t throw Bible verses at people randomly! He told stories, asked questions, and connected with people first.
🔹 Instead of this: “Romans 8:28 says all things work together for good!”
🔹 Try this instead: “Omo, I was down bad last week, but somehow things turned around. I know say na God because me sef, I no understand 🤷🏾♂️.”
💡 Same message, but more relatable!
2️⃣ Don’t Be That Friend Who Judges Everything 😬⛔
Nothing sends people running faster than a “holier-than-thou” attitude.
Your friend says they’re stressed, and instead of showing empathy, you hit them with:
❌ “Maybe it’s because you haven’t been praying enough.”
❌ “You sef, you too dey sin.”
🚨 If you do this, please stop. ASAP!
Because Jesus wasn’t like that. When He met people, He:
✅ Listened first 👂🏾
✅ Loved them where they were ❤️
✅ Dropped wisdom that made them rethink their lives 🤔
Instead of calling out what’s wrong, show grace—that’s what makes people open up to you.
3️⃣ Story > Sermon. Always. 🗣️📜
If you want people to listen to you—both online and in real life—stop preaching and start telling stories.
Jesus Himself did this!
When He wanted to explain faith, He told stories about:
🐑 Lost sheep
💰 Lost coins
👦🏽 Prodigal son (Matthew 13)
🔹 Instead of saying: “God provides for His people.”
🔹 Try sharing this instead: “E choke! I was completely broke, then unexpectedly, I got a credit alert. Na God run am! 💰🙌🏾”
💡 The more real and relatable you are, the more people pay attention.
4️⃣ Let Your Life Do the Talking 👀✨
At the end of the day, people watch how you live more than what you say.
If you’re always:
🚨 Gossiping
🚨 Complaining
🚨 Moving like someone who has no peace…
Why should they listen when you talk about God? 🤷🏽♀️
🔹 Matthew 5:16 (MSG): “Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God.”
💡 Your humility, kindness, and peace will do more for evangelism than any long sermon.
Final Word: Keep It Light, Keep It Real, Keep It Love ❤️
Let’s be real—even we, as Christians, don’t enjoy being preached at 24/7. We want to catch a break too!
👀 Nobody likes being preached at. But everyone is drawn to joy, peace, and realness.
Instead of forcing faith convos, live in a way that makes people curious about what’s keeping you grounded. Let them come to you!
And when the chance comes to talk about God?
✅ Keep it light 🕊️
✅ Keep it real 💯
✅ Most importantly, keep it love ❤️
Short Prayer 🙏
Lord, help me to be the kind of person who makes people curious about You. Teach me how to share my faith with wisdom, kindness, and joy. Amen.
